Another hot wedding with a thunderstorm throwing in

This weekend found us up in the hills near Malton decorating a lovely village church that was perched right on top of a hill. It was so hot that we decided to leave decorating outside the church until later as the flowers would have wilted in the heat. Unfortunately when we returned the weather had taken a turn for the worse & we were caught in a terrential thunderstorm. But we are sure the sun came out just in time for the bride arriving. The bride had chosen red peonies, forget me nots, red tulips, blue delphiniums and lots of wild meadow type flowers. The marquee was down in the village and when we walked in to see what the bride and her mum had been up to, it looked amazing. They had been making bunting, lots and lots of it. But not any old bunting they had made it double sided and all the hard work they had put into it ad paid off. Every last detail was perfect right down to the basket in the sitting area which they had filled with flip flops inviting people to wear them at the end of the evening when their feet had expired. We filled our vases, bottles, jugs, about 40 or more, placed them along the tables and left thinking how perfect it all look and that the bride was in the wrong job. Well done Charlotte, all your hard work and attention to detail paid off. Everything looked amazing. Pictures to follow soon.

Hot Weather Wedding

Saturday 22nd May found us all hot and bothered, setting up a wedding in a marquee with the temperature reaching 27 degrees. It was wonderfully natural with all the arrangements in cream jugs - one was Miranda's airloom - a large fat cream pot jug that we arranged large branches of pure white lilac, tall white delphiniums, stocks, snapdragons and lots of wild foliages in. We decorated the church to look like a lovely rural wedding and then with the aircon on full blast moved the pew ends and jug arrangements to the marquee in time for the reception starting. Our bride was so calm, she wanted a potting shed look for her wedding, we arranged several antique plant pots filled with lavender, lily of the valley and herbs in the centre of each table and with the pew ends tied on the back of the chairs the look was complete. We all dived back into the van with aircon blasting out and set of to put our hot tired feet up. The following morning I got a lovely email from the bride and groom which read as follows: "Just to say a special thank you to you and your team for your stearling efforts despite the heat. The flowers were just perfect and everyone commented how beautiful the church looked, informal but special.

Our chandalier of flowers

Last Friday saw five of us threading hundreds of flower heads and petals onto fishing line, we spent six hours adding more and more till we were happy that we had enough to tie onto our frame that was going to create our chandelier. Can you beleive it 30 man hours, but boy was it worth it. We have never created anything so magical.

We tied glass balls that held tea light at different heights in the middle of the structure. When it got dark they glowed and flickered making it dramatic even in the dark.

It was hung in the midde of the marquee and drew lots of attention from the guests.

Beware of dogs !

Oh no! what a week. It all started on Monday evening with our last delivery of the day. We called at the house to find no one in, Miranda left the flowers in a safe place out of the sun. I wrote her a card to put through the letter box and thats when it all went wrong. The dog on the other side of the door bit at her finger end.

She turned and shouted "the dogs bitten the end off my finger". To cut a long story short - with police, ambulances and a trip to A and E later it had indeed nipped the end of the tip off her finger and torn the nail off.

She has been having it dressed every two days and we are very hopeful that the nail will grow back okay. Needless to say she has not arranged any flowers since.
Its a bit of a drastic way to get out of work .

The message here is, be very careful when you are poking your fingers through letter boxes, you dont know what is on the other side!

Beauties From Ecuador

We have been ordering roses from Ecuador for some time now. I know we all love the old English garden type roses but for me nothing can beat the beauty and size of these amazing huge headed stunners and some have the added bonus of a heavenly scent. All these roses have fantastic names and some of our recent orders have been called 'Miss Piggy' , 'Coffee Break' and up to now my all time favourite 'Two Faces', which changes colour as it opens as big as your hand. We always try to order a new variety each week and can't wait for them to arrive. It's a real treat.

Battery Operated Candles Prove To Be A Great Success

Our battery operated candles looked fantastic at the recent Tourism Awards held at The National Railway Museum, York. They looked so realistic and flickered just like a proper flame. It' s surprising just how many venues are not allowing guests to use real candles because of the danger of a fire so ours are proving very popular. We have them in all shapes and sizes and have shades for the tall slim dinner candles which look very elegant. We already have many of our brides-to-be hiring them for their wedding receptions.
